Leader of right-wing group that radicalized Charleston killer donated $3,500 to Scott Walker

By Jason Huberty, June 22, 2015

Scott Walker has all but officially declared he is running for president, but it appears he will join the list of Republican presidential candidates who received campaign donations from the head of a right-wing white supremacist group credited with radicalizing the Charleston church killer.

As reported by The Guardian, Earl Holt III “is the president of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), a Missouri-based activist organization cited by the author of a manifesto-style text that was posted on a website registered in [Charleston shooting suspect Dylann] Roof’s name along with photographs of the gunman.”

The Guardian found that Holt has given at least $65,000 to Republican campaigns, including those of current Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Rick Santorum.

A quick Google search of Scott Walker’s and Earl Holt’s names revealed the following online comment made in 2014 under the name Earl Holt III.

Scott Walker Earl Holt IIIThe comment was made under an online offering for a set called “The Pride of the Confederacy Dinner Collection.”

A search of Wisconsin Democracy Campaign’s campaign finance database found 7 contributions from “Earl Holt” and “Earl P Holt” to Scott Walker. Holt gave $500 each contribution for a total of $3,500 in donations to Walker dating from October 11, 2011, through October 28, 2014 (twice on this date).

Holt could have contributed additional funds through a dark money source such as Wisconsin Club for Growth.

Upon being contacted by The Guardian, the campaign for Ted Cruz has announced they will return the funds donated by Holt.

Walker punted when asked whether the confederate flag should be removed from the South Carolina Capitol grounds.

Will Walker punt on returning the $3,500 Holt gave him too?

God must have said it was OK, I guess, because:

No surprise here. Walker has made his political career by villainizing minorities along with public employees and unions. Make not mistake, racism is alive and well here in Wisconsin.

Apparently now Walker decides to “donate to charity” his Holt Donations, which changes nothing.

Following the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign site, I would guess that *that* “charity” goes to whatever corporate entity contributed to his campaign website.

It kind of goes like this. A “large” business donates $10 or $15 K to his campaign fund and they are suddenly rewarded a Hundred-Fifty million “grant” or “loan” that is “forgivable” if they default.
