Ashland County Board members Charles Ortman and Photographer Joel Austin visited the site. Austin said, "This picture was taken on an observation platform that was out in a kind of peninsula sticking out into the pit. There was pit on all sides of me except straight behind. I would guess something like 270 degrees. It's hard to convey in a photograph. This one is just a small chunk of it."
